Financial Aid Information

Financial aid includes all resources, other than those of students and families, that are used to finance a legal education. At the College of Law, these resources consist of scholarships, tuition waivers, and federal as well as private educational loans. Scholarships and tuition waivers are administered within the College of Law. Applications for federal and private education loans, including Federal Stafford Loans, are administered by the Georgia State University Office of Student Financial Aid.

The Financial Aid Bulletin, published by the Georgia State Office of Student Financial Aid, is a helpful guide that answers many questions about the financial aid process and the types of loans that are available. Copies of this Bulletin are available online and from the Georgia State University College of Law's Admissions Office and the GSU Office of Student Financial Aid. To increase the likelihood of receiving federal financial aid, students are urged to submit an application whether or not they think they qualify for funds.

In order to apply for financial aid you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA is available from the Office of Student Financial Aid, Room 102, Sparks Hall, or online at the FAFSA site. Students should mail a completed FAFSA approximately six to eight weeks prior to the April 1 deadline in order to ensure that their file can be complete by the deadline. A completed file includes acceptance to Georgia State along with any required tax forms and/or financial aid transcripts.

If you have previously filed a FAFSA, the U.S. Department of Education will send you either a Renewal Application form OR a postcard reminder to renew on-line. If you do not receive a Renewal Application or postcard by January 10, we suggest that you complete and file a new FAFSA.

If you file your FAFSA and complete your financial aid file by the April 1 deadline you will be awarded financial aid, if eligible, by the end of Fall Phase II Registration. If you send in your FAFSA form or complete your financial aid file after the April 1 deadline, you should be prepared to pay your tuition and fees in order to hold your registration.

Guest/visiting students should contact their home institution regarding financial aid. For more information on the types and eligibility requirements of financial aid programs available you may pick up a copy of the Financial Aid Bulletin from either the College's Admissions Office or the University's Office of Student Financial Aid.
